Knitting is my newest hobby. I started knitting about 2 years ago after watching a ton of YouTube videos and really learning the craft. For me, knitting has become that hobby that allows me to put all of my problems aside and focus on the task at hand. It isn’t always a fun task, and I tend to curse a lot, but the end result is something I am extremely proud of and I become so thankful I didn’t quit. I wanted to knit something for a good friend of mine and that is how the Pebble Beach Shawl featuring Humble Acres came to light.
About 3 or 4 years ago, I was sitting in my moms living room when she decided to show me the two basic stitches of knitting. It didn’t go further than that because I am a horrible student and have no patience. But I will always remember that moment, she was knitting this dark blue scarf just to knit something which was interesting because she always crochets. This is the moment I fell in love with knitting and wanted to learn more.
My friend Tatiana is that friend I know I can always turn to. She is such a fun and loving nerd. She loves all things geek related and I love that about her. I wanted to knit her something for Mother’s day even though it had passed. I decided to pick out the yarn before the pattern because I wanted the perfect pattern for my choice in yarn. Humble Acres is one of my favorite shops! I am all about supporting small businesses and Angela, the owner, is one awesome individual. I decided to go with her Humble Sock yarn in the color way Mermaid. It was a fun colorway and I swore Tatiana would love it.
Once my yarn arrived, I had to choose a pattern, which of course was the tricky part. I originally had a different pattern but then ended up with the Pebble Beach Shawl. This was my first lace pattern and I have to say I was nervous. I started this shawl a total of 9 times. I even threw it across the room once. HAHA! The pebble beach shawl is very well written and broke down row by row which, as a beginner is something I loved.
Recently I have become what they call a yarn snob. I am falling in love with indie dyers like Humble Acres. I’ve become a bit obsessed with Angela and a few other dyers. Angela is such an amazing business owner. She host Wine and Dye live shows once a week where we can chat with her and even send her color ideas. I have a few different yarn blends from Humble Acres and I am loving them all so far. Humble Acres humble sock is probably my favorite so far. The possibilities with this weight of yarn are endless.
The Pebble Beach Shawl was my second choice for the Humble Acres Humble Sock yarn. My first pattern kept going sideways and I just wasn’t happy with it. I decided to give the Pebble Beach Shawl a try even though it was a bit intimidating. I figure now is the best time to break out of my comfort zone. So, I went for it and it took me 9 dan tried to get it correct. Haha. Man the stories with this shawl…. I will never forget the issues I had. I dropped stitches and it took everything I had not to frog the entire project.
Knitting has become a way to cope with situations for me. For me, a person who suffers from depression and anxiety, working with my hands if a great way to relieve some of that stress. Knitting has become a great way for me to find my center and not feel over whelmed.
