December is finally here and I am all about Spreading Cheer this Holiday!
This year has been much different for me then others in the past and a lot has changed. I had to make one of the hardest decision of my life. A decision that has left with a hole in my heart. On top of that, I moved. I finally stepped away from family and have moved away. I have had some major bumps in the road and had to hear a lot of things I didn’t want to hear but needed. With all of these changes I am reminded of what I have. I am reminded that I have so much to be thankful for.
With that, Spreading Cheer this Holiday is something I want to do. I want to have the chance to give to others for no reason.
I have always been interested in giving back when I can. Sometimes it can be something so small as buying a co-worker lunch or giving them money for a soda. Sometimes it can be as much as hanging out with a friend for the day and including them in my daily life to allow them a break of their daily life.
Then it can also be the pleasure of purchasing a total stranger a meal or giving the homeless woman on the corner a few dollars. Giving back in the smallest way can make the world of difference to an individual. However this time, with the holidays in the mist and the overwhelming feeling of getting gifts and deals, I thought Spreading Cheer this Holiday would be the perfect thing!
I love to bake and usually I like to bake from scratch but this time I wanted to do something simple. Betty Crocker has always been one of my go to items when shopping. We are always stocked up on cake mix, you know, for those nights you just want cake!
We decided to make a little basket with some cookies and cookie mix would be a great idea! I love baking for many different reasons like, having freshly baked goods, being able to spend time in the kitchen and making memories! Making memories is my all time favorite parts when it comes to baking, but what I also love is, the smell. I love how the entire downstairs just smells like a bake shop. Depending what I am baking, the smell lingers upstairs.. =P Which I love as well.
We baked up some sugar cookies and decided to go about this a few different ways. We left a few plain and then chose to decorate a few others with frosting and sprinkles. I think the kids did a great job on these and I have to admit, they sure did taste yummy!
Once the cookies were all baked and the frosting had hardened a bit, I packed them up in some clear bags with some bakers twine. We were all pretty happy with how the cookies turned out! The red and white bakers twine added a nice Christmas touch.
This is our end result! =) I think our Spreading Cheer this Holiday basket turned out pretty good. We included cookies, some tags, and a bag of Sugar Cookie mix! I thought it would be best to help them along in the process of baking some of their own cookies. =D I mean, who doesn’t love cookies!
The kids were excited to give the basket to our neighbors across the street. Because it was raining we decided we would knock and give them the basket rather then leave it on the steps. We didn’t want it to get rained on and ruined.
The kids were excited and our neighbors loved the basket! As a mother, I am happy! It’s so easy to give to others and it doesn’t’ always have to be a costly thing. I spent less then $20 to make this basket and have plenty of stuff left over to make ourselves more cookies or someone else. And we have neighbors who appreciated the basket so much so they want to bake cookies for the boys!
I am sharing this story with you all because I want you to remember a few things. One, your kids are only this age once. Tomorrow they will be another day older and another day wiser. One day they will be off on their own. Hold onto them for as long as you can. My son is older so there isn’t as many messy kitchen baking days like their use to be but remember, it’s okay to make a mess with your kids… A mess can be cleaned up. It’s also important to remind them the gift of giving!
Take a moment to go grab some Betty Crocker cookie mixes and head off to your kitchen to make some memories! Memories that will last a life time! I promise you, it will be worth it!
