Mother’s Day Photobook from Shutterfly

May 13, 2013

Every May I combine my mom’s birthday and Mother’s day present together since they are only about a week and half apart. Last year I went above and beyond to give her the perfect gift. I did a collage for her of her childhood photos and a few photos of her kids. This year I thought I was so screwed!! However, about 4 days before her birthday I came up with the most amazing idea!!!!

I decided to head over to Shutterfly and see what their prices were for their hardcover photo books and I was super excited to see they were 50% off. I decide to build her a book of her childhood photos just like her collage. Then I got the idea to make it just so much better and I contacted my brothers, sister in law and aunts and had them all add in a little something special to the book. Messages from the family! What could be a better gift then a book filled with memories and letters to tell you how loved you are?

So, Here are photos of the book. I hope you like it! I stayed up almost every night to make this book and it was well worth it! By the way, My mom loved it and cried and cried and cried some more! Happy tears that is!

Here is the cover, which I am in love with, it’s super simple, clean and modern! Which I just love!

The first page of this book is something very special. “Hey Kiddo”, is something my dad has always said to my mom, Kiddo is her nickname by him. When making this book I had to remind myself this is just about her and if someone that is in her life now is offended there is nothing I can do about it because my dad will always be apart of her life whether anyone likes it or not. Just because I am an adult and have a child of my own doesn’t mean I don’t need my parents communicating. So, I made the first page with my dad in mind since he was a huge part of her life!

The following two pages are photos I found of my mom in some of her albums! I added little messages just as a reminder that our past is what makes us who we are today!

The following pages are hand written letters to my mom from my oldest brother Larry Jr, my sister in law Charlene & my first nephew Larry III. The second page is messages from my aunts to my mom! I am very thankful they all helped make this book possible!!

PhotoBook08
These were the some of the harder pages to make. I am thankful to still have both my parents but I sure have had my scares over the years. Losing parents is something we all have to deal with and it just down right sucks, but something we have to remember is even with the mistakes our parents make or the lack of vocal love, know that deep down they love you and they know you love them!

One thing I am always vocal about is being honest and upfront with people. If you have something to say, say it today because tomorrow may never come and then you are left with the guilt, the wondering of “what if”. Sometimes it is too late, so don’t let it be too late!

My mom has had some tough times so these pages were to remind her what she has been apart of and what she will always be apart of! It’s important to remind people how much they are valued, it’s easy to forget!!

My brother Nick and I wrote longer messages. I personally had a very hard time doing this and I rewrote my letter 3 times. I have a lot to say and didn’t know where to start. By the time I made it to the 3rd letter I had no choice but to accept it because I was running out of time! I think adding the hand written letters just made this book so much more valuable to my mom!

This is the back cover! We all are very busy and it’s hard to get us into a photograph together and the last time we had a chance I choose not to because I knew what I made for this book. I personally am a behind the camera kind of girl and this like many other issues, I need to face. But what it comes down to, is my mom knows I love her and no picture will ever amount to the love I have for her! She is one tough woman!!

Thank you Alicia, I try hard to make them more personal then anything. I can easily buy anything she wanted but by finding things she doesn’t know she wants until she has them is something i love. Things that will get passed down generations to come.

This is such a beautiful and thoughtful gift. I did a similar Shutterfly book this year for my FIL’s life (his mom just passed away a few weeks ago) and one of our family for my MIL. although yours is quite extensive! Very impressive. It’s these gifts that really matter to our parents! So sweet.
